FAMILY HISTORY FROM JOE

Joe Borgen in North Dakota sent us an email describing some family history. He wrote:

Lom church in North Dakota , the first land for the property was donated by my grand father Lars Borgen, and at a later date my father and mother donated some more land for the cemetery.

Tom Myhren and Clara (Borgen) Myhren were my aunt & uncle, Clara was my father's sister. Clara's father was Lars Leo Borgen, my father was Leo Lars Borgen, Clara's mother was Sigrid Vole . They immigrated here around 1870 to1880.

The Myhren, Borgen's, & Mundhjield's came from the Lom Norway town. The aerie north and west of there is Boverdalin where the farms are. My wife and I are going to Norway the 28th of April, and I hope to find more info about the Borgen's and Vole's and possibly some about the Myhren families. If you have any info that may help me in my search for info about the families, please contact me.

A NOTE FROM GURI LARSEN - NORWAY

We received this postcard from Guri in July. I recently found it and thought you'd all like to read it yourselves. In the upper left hand corner she writes about the painting on the postcard... You've probably heard about him: Edvard Munch (1863-1944) He's a very well known painter.

Hello everybody! How nice it would be to be present at your 2007 FAMILY CAMP. If our private little plane was working, we would sure have joined in. But Harald takes care of the travelling in this fam - twice to Korea during the month of June!! And Hokon too actually - he'll be going to Vietnam next week, believe it or not. He'll do a lot of sightseeing, and also get to see where the Americans were. He'll first spend two days on his own, and then meet eleven others (all foreigners) and they'll travel as a group for one week. Fascinating! He made a similar (can't read...trip?) 2 years ago, when he was still a student. Now he's a scholarship holder at the University for 4 years! HELLO TO EVERYONE. ENJOY THE CAMP. LOM CHURCH/CEMETERY MAINTENANCE FUND

Dear Family,
Chris Derbyshire recently received a letter from Bob Meyer, our second-cousin in North Dakota. In the course of the letter, he mentioned the upkeep of the Lom Church and Cemetery where Grandpa and Grandma Myhren, Aunts Aline & Olga and others are buried.

He didn't ask for help, but we and Chris believe its our generation's turn to step up and help with the upkeep of the routine maintenance. Chris noted that the Lom Church's annual budget for maintenance is $3-4,000 and their yearly revenues are less than $6,000.

At this point we're planning on taking up a donation at next year's family reunion (tentatively set for Camp Makuala) to be sent in the name of the Oregon Myhren Cousins, but if you are able to contribute anything to the Lom Church between now and then, please let us or Chris Derbyshire know. We can get Bob Meyer's address to you ASAP.
